Straight Answers to Typical Questions People Ask
You may already have done some research on hypnosis, and realized there are lots of myths and exaggerated claims put out by hypnotists, for instance “you will be fully in control in hypnosis”, or “you will remember everything”, which are not necessarily true. If you are a bit skeptical about these claims, that is quite understandable.
I try to give people honest and accurate information about hypnosis, so they can make an informed choice. Here are some answers to questions that people commonly ask about hypnosis, but don’t often get straight answers to.
Can I be made do something embarrassing that I don’t want to do, like those people in hypnosis stage shows? The answer is yes and no. YES, if you volunteer to get up on a stage in front of an audience, and allow yourself to be hypnotized, you can be LED, but NOT forced, to do things about which you might later say, “hmm, that was silly”.
And NO, in a private hypnosis session, you will not experience anything like that.
Will I be unconscious under hypnosis? No, you will be awake and you will be aware of what is going on, but you will be in a relaxed daydream-like state. At any time during the session, you can step out of that daydream state, if you want or need to.
Will I be fully in control in hypnosis? No, not fully. Hypnosis is an interactive process where you work with the hypnotist to examine areas of your life where you may be stuck in a rut. You are guided to the place in your mind where you can make the positive changes that will get you out of that rut. And so, to be honest, a hypnotist can have a degree of control over what you give your attention to, your emotional state and your perception during the experience.
